![]() For babies who need to be held to sleep, Dr. ![]() Some people have luck warming the bassinet with a heating pad prior to putting down their baby (remove the heating pad before putting baby down). There are bassinet models that allow you to adjust it to mattress level and lower one side so you can keep an arm around the baby while they’re in the bassinet. If your baby can tolerate sleeping in bed next to you, I would look into the Safe 7 rules for co-sleeping. It truly felt like a nightmare and I did not enjoy that phase at all (although I deeply loved my baby).ĭuring the need to be held phase, some parents split the night into shifts so that they stay awake while holding the baby all night. By 3.5 months she was basically sleeping through the night with a dream feed. Then, she magically decided she was ready to start sleeping 2-3 hour stretches. Solidarity, friend! My daughter would not sleep more than 30 minutes unless she was held up to my chest until she was 11 weeks old (if I laid her down in bed next to me, she would immediately start screaming). They are way more articulate about it than I am! If you're looking for more I'd suggest joining the Safe Infant Sleep-Evidence Based Support Group on fb! Very informative and has way more info. This is the best sort of comprehensive but also digestable in layman's terms guide that includes sources: Important to note, AAP doesn't have an official stance on it, which is why products like Nested Bean who claim they are in line with AAP's recommendations are misleading. There isn't much info on testing for weighted items on infants because they don't want to take the risk. Safe weighted items like weighted blankets are generally made specific to each child, which the swaddles obviously can't do, and weighted blankets are not recommended for children under 2. Could be a risk of overheating, entrapment/ suffocation if baby rolls/can prevent rolling, etc. They basically treat it the same way you'd look at a weighted blanket. I’m looking for tales from the trenches - who lets their baby sleep in a Dock A Tot or do I really need to go back to holding her or letting her scream in her bassinet? Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences! My kid loves this effing thing (it was a hand-me-down from a neighbor - I wasn’t about to purchase one because to me, I thought it was a $200 pointless cushion.)ĪNYWAY - my question to fellow parents of newborns is - do you let your baby sleep in a Dock A Tot at night? Has anyone placed their Dock A Tot IN the bassinet or the crib as a sleep solution? (I KNOW they are not technically safe-sleep approved, but let’s be honest - we need to survive and weren’t these things originally designed for safe infant sleep?) My parents leave in a week - we’re 600 miles away - so sleeping in shifts is not an option as it’s been these past two weeks…Įnter the magical Dock-A-Tot. ![]() ![]() Does not sleep for any decent stretch unless we’re snuggling her. My two-week old HATES her bassinet, crib, even the Momaroo. ![]()
